In a recent announcement, mobile operator 3 revealed that, from April onwards, it will be selling two new Android-based handsets from Samsung the Galaxy Mini and the Galaxy Pro.

Noting that Samsung has had a great start to the year by bringing very strong smartphone contenders to market, Sylvia Chind – Head of Branded Devices at 3- said: Were very excited to be adding the Samsung Galaxy Pro and the Samsung Galaxy Mini to our growing portfolio.

Despite the fact that the exact launch date and the pricing of the forthcoming Samsung handsets on 3 remain undisclosed; the carrier has confirmed that both the Galaxy Mini and the Galaxy Pro will be on pay as you go and contract.

The Galaxy Mini will be Samsungs entry-level budget Android handset featuring a 3.14-inch capacitive touchscreen, and a 600MHz processor; while the Galaxy Pro, which is a better handset of the two, features a 2.8-inch touchscreen, an 800MHz processor, and a full QWERTY keyboard.
The Mini will be available in two bright-coloured variants – black and green, and black and silver. Meanwhile, the Pro will also include Samsung’s Social Hub Premium – a social networking feature that will enable users to manage their social life from one place.

Both the handsets will feature a 3-megapixel camera; and run the 2.2 Froyo version of the Google Android OS. 3 is yet to disclose whether these two handsets will be updated to the Android Gingerbread version in the future.

This week, the latest U.S. smartphone market share report from comScore has little good news for Apple, except possibly that things could be worse. For the three-month period ending in January, the iPhone was flat at 24.7 percent, up just 0.01 percent from October.

In sharp contrast, Android surged 7.7 percent during the same period, ending at 31.5 percent, and taking the number one spot previously held by RIM. The Canadian smartphone maker tumbled 5.4 percent, down to 30.4 percent share, and will almost certainly be passed by Apple during the first half of this year. Windows Phone 7 was unable to halt Microsofts slide, down from 9.7 to 8.0 percent, while HPs webOS fell from 3.9 to 3.2 percent.

Last week, Nielsen released market share data for smartphones that saw Google edge out Apple and RIM in the U.S. From December to January, Android was up from 27 to 29 percent, while iOS on the iPhone dipped from 28 to 27 percent, and RIM was flat at 27 percent. While that wasnt great news for Apple, it at least showed iOS keeping pace with Android, which the comScore report seems not to indicate.

Looking back at 2010, the rise of Googles smartphone OS is simply amazing. Last January, Android was at just 7.1 percent according to comScore. The question now becomes whether Apple can stop Google from achieving a majority, if not a super-majority, of smartphones sold in the highly lucrative U.S. market in 2011, and avoid becoming a niche player. To do so, Apple needs to address to address two major issues with the iPhone business model: distribution and price.

Samsung’s Android smartphone portfolio continues to grow, as the company announced today at the Samsung SEA Forum in Singapore that it will be releasing the Galaxy Pro.

Though details are still light, images of the device have shown that it is going to adopt a similar design to many of the BlackBerry handsets available today: it will sport a four-row, QWERTY keyboard beneath a 2.8-inch touchscreen display.

This is a design popular with many business users, who prefer easy text entry over a large display, and the “Pro” in the name indicates that this model is likely aimed at the enterprise.
It appears that the Galaxy Pro will be an entry-level smartphone, as the handful of specs that have been revealed aren’t on the high end. It will be powered by an 800 MHz processor and will run Google Android OS 2.2 (Froyo) with Samsung’s TouchWiz UI overlay.
Other features are going to include a 3-megapixel camera with auto-focus, Wi-Fi connectivity, and Social Hub Premium.

Price & Availability
It is currently unknown what U.S. wireless carriers will offer the Galaxy Pro, though it has been announced that U.K. carrier Three will offer it.
Likewise, pricing and availability information for the handset has yet to be disclosed.

If you have a system of wired digital video, you want to make sure that the cables from the camera for them to correct. In this article we look at the most common form of security camera cable and cable connections. Camcorders security in general, two types of cables, one for transmitting video from the camera to the DVR (Digital Video Recorder) and the other to power the camera.

The most common security camera cable used today is the RG-59/U. This is a coaxial cable designed specifically for low-power video signals. Historically speaking, the name of the cable originates from the U.S. military. RG-59 designated the type of cable and the U stood for general utility use. However, the RG (which stood for Radio, General) component is no longer part of military standards, however the name use has remained, generally without the /U designation.

RG-59 security camera cable has a unique characteristic that makes it a good match for use with video transmissions. It has the same impedance as an antenna, such as the rabbit ears type that was used on televisions. This impedance of 75 ohms makes the cable a good choice for radio frequency transmissions for televisions, DVRs, and security camera video. RG-59 is smaller than typical cable television cable, RG-6, and is therefore less obtrusive and easier to manipulate.

However, RG-59 has a tendency toward high-frequency losses over long distances (greater than RG-6 for example) but 750 feet seems to be a generally agreed upon length before significant losses appear. These can also be corrected with drop amplifiers or active (powered) baluns to boost signals. For most security camera systems applications, RG-59 coaxial cable works well.

The RG-59 security camera cable consists of an outer plastic sheath (the colored cover or jacket of the cable), followed by a copper braid shield (it looks like a mesh or netting of fine wire), underneath which is an inner dielectric insulator (often looks like a milky white thick plastic material somewhat like a drinking straw) that contains a copper-plated or solid copper (better performance) center wire core.

RG-59 cable is usually fitted with one of three different types of connector; F connectors (used most commonly for cable television applications), RCA plugs (often used by DVD players), and BNC connectors. By far the most common type of security camera cable connector is the BNC.
